Free Contraceptive Scheme

Welcome to the Free Contraception Service offered by Lambay Family Practice, designed to support individuals aged 17 to 31 years inclusive in managing their reproductive health. This service, in accordance with Section 67E of the Health Act, 1970 (as amended), combines both general practitioner consultations and community pharmacy services to ensure comprehensive contraceptive care.

Our scheme covers the costs associated with:
– Consultations with our GPs and specialist doctors to discuss suitable contraceptive options, prescribe medications, and provide ongoing support.
– Dispensing of contraceptive prescriptions through our network of community pharmacists.
– Fitting and/or removal of various Long-Acting Reversible Contraception (LARCs), such as IUS, IUDs (coils), implants, injections, patches, and rings, including necessary medical checks.
– Training and certification of additional medical professionals to administer and remove LARCs.
– Access to a wide range of contraceptive options available to GMS (medical) card holders, including contraceptive injections, implants, IUS, IUDs (coils), contraceptive patches, contraceptive rings, and various forms of oral contraceptives, including emergency contraception.

For oral contraceptives, prescriptions are typically issued at 6-month intervals to ensure continuous and convenient access. Additionally, appointments for fittings and removals of LARCs by healthcare professionals are scheduled separately from consultations to provide focused and specialized care.

At Lambay Family Practice, we are committed to ensuring that all individuals have access to reliable contraceptive options tailored to their needs, promoting reproductive autonomy and wellbeing. Discover how our Free Contraception Service can support your healthcare journey today.
